VIEW Support Services - Frequently Asked QuestionsGeneric issues & updates:1. Our beta-testers have successfully run VIEW:Gatwick, VIEW:Retail & VIEW:Ford(alpha) using the new Apple Quicktime release, version 6.5.2. This report confirms VIEWs position in terms of compatability with the vast (98-99%) majority of PCs. Users are able to update the QT releases when they like and retain VIEW's operation. 2. A bug has been discovered surrounding VIEW's "Help" screen when certain single-images are displayed. Beta-testers were able to isolate and reproduce the error on a number of different computers. This is now a known bug and can cause VIEW to crash. If VIEW does crash (either you could get stuck on the Help menu, or have a flickering rotary image), press the Esc key to leave the program or use CTRL+ALT+DEL to terminate the process. We are working on a bug-fix for this error in subsequent releases and the possibility of a downloadable patch. If you have experienced this problem, please contact our technical support services and make a bug report -- note where and when you pressed the "Help" button at the time of the crash. 3. "Malicious Script" error messages / Anti-Virus conflicts: We have taken reports of a problem from a number of different users who have tried to install a VIEW and found that there is sometimes a conflict between the VIEW installer and some anti-virus software. To get VIEW to install you should disable your anti-virus software whilst installing (Try finding the icon in your system tray located on the bottom right of the screen, or load your anti-virus software's control panel). Once disabled you should try to install VIEW. After VIEW is fully installed you should test that it works, and then re-enable your anti-virus software to ensure you are still protected. VIEW Multi-User Edition Generic issues & updates:1. Some schools have experienced problems when a second (or more) user attempts to join a networked VIEW site. If you experience an error similar to "Access Violation Error", then please confirm that (1) Permissions for views.mdb are set to READ/WRITE/MODIFY(&/OR CREATE); (2) Your server's operating system is kept up to date with all the latest service packs and bug fixes installed. If you are still experiencing problems, please contact our technical support services and make a bug report. VIEWFord - Known Content Issues:1. We have found a pedestrian entrance to "C Building" toward the east side of the site (facing west) that does not work. An update patch will be released soon. Please watch the news page for updates. VIEWRetail - Known Installation Issues:1. Quicktime 6 installer occasionally causes a minor problem on install. If your install appears to "hang", try using ALT+TAB to switch to the QUICKTIME INSTALLER, which sometimes falls to the back of VIEW's installer on some machines. 2. On some HP and Compaq systems, VIEW was found to conflict with Compaq "Easy Access Keyboard" software. If you find problems with "StartEAK", consider uninstalling your EAK shortkeys. Keep checking here for updates. 3. IMPORTANT:If you are unable to install any version of VIEW on your system - please confirm that you have the correct level of access on your computer. If the computer you are intending to install this software on has password protection enabled, or is part of a network, then it is likely that you will not have sufficient access rights to install new software. You should check with a member of IT staff in your school or business who will help you install the software where necessary. Unfortunately we cannot support this enquiry as the solution lies with your IT administrator. There are no other known installation problems at this time. VIEWRetail - Known Bugs / ProblemsThere are no known bugs or problems running VIEW at this time. If you are experiencing problems running VIEW, please contact us via email. It would be helpful if you were a REGISTERED USER before submitting questions. We reserve the right to refuse support to UNREGISTERED users. If VIEW is running poorly or very slowly on your computer, your computer specification might not meet VIEW's system requirements. For a list of system requirements select 'system requirements' on the above menu. The South East England Development Agency has funded the construction of six VIEW applications. All six will be provided on CDs courtesy of SEEDA to schools in the South East of England free of charge. |
