VIEW:ICT Launches!posted by: Richard Monk on Monday 12 September VIEW:ICT – A VIEW of Dover Coastguard Station has had its official launch celebration today hosted by the station itself. We would like to express many thanks to all of the staff at Dover Coastguard Station for their time and support during the data collection process, and the MCA itself for giving us permission to document the fine work of our coastguard. The VIEW of Dover Coastguard Station provides the young person with an opportunity to explore the station and better understand the facility as a workplace environment with particular emphasis on the use of ICT. The Operations Room within the station hosts an impressive application of ICT. Live data from radar systems together with data from vessel based transponders are combined into a computer based graphical interface representing the Strait and the positions of vessels found there. Linked to a powerful database the Coastguard systems combine current vessel information such as name, type, cargo, course, speed, destination etc with an ability to recall information about all vessels using the Strait over several years. You can find more information about VIEW:ICT on our VIEWS page. You can purchase a Multi-User Edition of this software that can be deployed over a school network on any number of computers by contacting us today. Please see the contacts page for further information and check here for pricing details. Photography & filming starts at Addenbrooks hospitalposted by: Richard Monk on Tuesday 6 September Photography and filming has started at Addenbrooks hospital, Cambridge for FutureVu’s new VIEW CDROM surrounding the role of Healthcare Scientists. VIEW:Enterprise to incorporate Challenge concept - promises greater interactivityposted by: Richard Monk on Tuesday 6 September VIEW:Enterprise, a SEEDA funded 3-CDROM project is to incorperate a new Challenge concept which promises even greater interactivity between VIEW and the user. As the user explores each working environment (VIEW:Enterprise comprises 6 individual small businesses), they may stumble across a Challenge presented as an option menu with multimedia hints directly linked. These are real life challenges faced by the respective business on a day to day basis – usually something that the business has not yet solved. Each Challenge provides a unique opportunity to promote students’ independent learning and idea forming skills – as well as an excellent stimulus for class debate and presentations. Unlike traditional business problem concepts, students’ possible solutions can be cross-referenced and verified by exploring the content of each virtual workplace – confirming their idea or providing evidence to rule it out. The Centre will house an array of not-for-profit and new media businesses as well as the prominent Milton Keynes Chamber of Commerce who have been very supportive of our move. The move means we get a bigger and better office with plenty of room for expansion – an excellent opportunity for the company and for the continuing progress of the VIEW Project. We would like to extend our thanks to all who have supported this process over the past month.
